Vimeo, with an app currently available for the iOS only , is launching an app version for the Kindle Fire, Android and Windows Phone. The app allows the users to view clips, like, share and comment on videos and search for new ones like on the Vimeo website.

Users can download the Vimeo app for free and run it on their Kindle Fire. You won’t need to log in to watch videos but if you do, you can comment and much more. Basically, it’s a youtube-like app but for Vimeo instead of Youtube.

“Commenting on the development, Joe Schmitt, lead mobile developer at Vimeo said, “With mobile devices making up approximately 15 per cent of our site traffic, we recognise the importance of expanding our platforms to allow people to access Vimeo from as many devices as possible.”"

Mobicip announced today that it is offering Internet content filtering for the Kindle Fire in order to protect kids from inappropriate content.

The Mobicip’s Safe Browser app will enable children to access the web and browse websites that are only suit for their age. For a Premium Service, parents will be able to restrict the content by filtering and monitoring the Internet activity online.

“We’ve seen a lot of outpour over the excitement of Amazon’s Kindle Fire by parents in forums and articles,” says Suren Ramasubbu, CEO and Founder of Mobicip, “But because some apps like Facebook cannot be removed by the user, it is imperative that third party parental controls are installed to make the experience appropriate for their age level. With Mobicip, kids can safely and securely use these devices when parents install our dynamic content filtering.”

“We had such a strong request by parents who were gifting their kids with devices like Kindle Fire to offer our parental controls and online content filtering over the holiday season. Because of this, we expedited our Kindle Fire filtering solution to ensure these gifts were used in a way that omits content that parents don’t want their kids to see.” said Ramasubbu.

Kingston Digital, the memory specialist company, recently announced two new upgrades to its Wi-Drive wireless tablet storage system which brings extended capacity through the new Wi-Drive app for the Amazon Kindle Fire.

Wi-Drive, which was originally created to be used with the iPad, is a small, rechargeable solid-stage storage device which delivers up to 32GB capacity to existing supported tablets. The 64GB version is in works and expected to be released later in Q1 2012. Being able to playback DRM protected content and AirPlay streaming capable, the Wi-Drive is now compatible with Amazon’s Kindle Fire. So basically you can extend the storage of the Kindle Fire via this device, in addition to the 8GB internal  already available.

A new rumour today reveals that Google might launch a $200 Kindle Fire tablet competitor sometime between March or April this year, according to sources from “Google’s upstream supply chain”.

If it’s true, this would be surprising in terms of Google not trying to compete with the current number 1 leader in the tablet market, Apple’s iPad. In contrast to this, Google Taiwan released a statement in which the company says that has never hear about a plan of launching a Google Tablet in the near future.

Eric Schimdt, Google’s CEO, has recently acknowledged  that the company plans to release a high quality tablet in the first half of 2012 but not further details have been revealed ever since. Many believe that Google might include a tablet in its portfolio the same way the Nexus smartphone has been release into the market.

The Google tablet is rumored to feature a 7-inch screen and powered by Android 4.0 with a price tag of $200 or under in order to compete with Amazon’s Kindle Fire.

Good news today for those who were looking to install or get the browser that sits on the Kindle Fire, Silk, on their own Android devices.

A group of developers from XDA started to share information on how to port the Silk web browser on different Android devices. In order to do this, you will need a rooted Android device and a file that can be downloaded and installed in the /system/lib directory with permissions set as the current folder.

Next you would need to side load all your desired .apks and move the Silk apk from /data/app to /system/app. The final step is to reboot your Android device and the Silk browser experience from the Kindle Fire with access to Amazon’s cloud-based service is now available at your fingertips.

We all know or heard that the Kindle Fire is selling very well since it was first released in mid-November. One analyst noted that Amazon’s sales in regards to the Kindle Fire took quite a bit of Apple’s iPad sales for the 4th quarter of 2011.

According to Tavis McCourt, Morgan Keegan analyst, Apple may have sold an estimate of 13 million iPads during the holiday season which is 2 million less than previously anticipated. Contrarily, Amazon sold about one million Kindle devices each week during the 3 month interval but the number of Kindle Fire devices sold is unknown.

“Kindle Fire is the most successful product we’ve ever launched -– it’s the bestselling product across all of Amazon for 11 straight weeks, we’ve already sold millions of units, and we’re building millions more to meet the high demand,” Dave Limp, Amazon’s Kindle-focused vice president.

McCourt believes, as stated in his research note, that Kindle sales (around 4-5 million) “cannibalized iPad sales” in the holiday season.

“Clearly, a lot of folks who buy Kindle Fires simply are not in the market for a $500 tablet,” McCourt said to AllThingsD‘s John Paczkowski.

“These are customers that either would have purchased a $100 Kindle or no tablet at all,” the analyst continued. “There are some customers who clearly wanted to gift a tablet this year, and it’s cheaper to gift a Fire than and iPad. That’s where the impact comes in.”

According to Amazon, 2011 was a very good year for the Kindle Family. Amazon customers purchased millions of Kindle Fires and Kindle e-readers, with over 4 millions sales in December alone.

G5 Entertainment recently announced that the hidden object adventure game Paranormal Agency will be available on the Kindle Fire. The Fire version will land on the slate on January 12th.

“Detective Heather Mills has the amazing ability to see ghosts and other mysterious entities that are not visible to other people,” reads G5′s description of the game. When spooky ghosts and weird creatures start showing up in local homes, it’s up to Heather and her agency to get to the bottom of this macabre mystery and look for reasons behind recent poltergeist attacks on innocent citizens. Included in the game are 50 levels and five types of challenges plus seven minigames. Paranormal is currently available for PC, Mac, Android and iOS.
